Most Reverend Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the Bishop of Mangalore, inaugurated the 'Pavitraatama Abhishelotsva 2017,' a State-level Convention commemorating the Golden Jubilee of Charismatic Renewal in the Catholic Church. The Bishop marked the commencement by ceremonially lighting the lamp, and a specially designed flag depicting the Jubilee logo was hoisted. As an integral part of the inaugural ceremony, seven doves, symbolizing the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, were released into the air, accompanied by enthusiastic applause from the attendees. Following this, Bishop D’Souza presided over the inaugural Holy Mass.
During his homily, the Bishop expressed gratitude to God for the manifold gifts bestowed upon the Mother Church during the Golden Jubilee of the Renewal. He acknowledged that the Renewal had been instrumental in bestowing numerous blessings upon the faithful, including spiritual enrichment, physical and spiritual healings, transformative life changes, reconciliations, and liberation from detrimental habits.
Bishop Lawrence Mukkuzhi, the Episcopal Advisor of the Karnataka Regional Charismatic Service Team, served as the keynote speaker for the day. His sermon centered on the theme 'Walking with Jesus - Call to Holiness.' Additionally, Reverend Fathers Franklin D’Souza of the Shimoga Diocese and Jose Vettiancal led the Adoration to the Blessed Sacrament.
The event witnessed the presence of distinguished guests, including Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu, the Vicar General; Mr M.P. Noronha, the Diocesan Pastoral Parishad Secretary; Mr J R Lobo, M.L.A. of Mangalore South Constituency; Mr Ivan D’Souza, M.L.C. and Chief Whip of the Karnataka State Legislative Assembly; Fr Melwyn Noronha, the Spiritual Director of the Mangalore Service Team (MST); Mr Michael Noronha, Chairman of the Karnataka Service Team (KRST); and Mr Arun Lobo, Chairman of the MST. Fr Onil D’Souza, the Convener of the Convention, extended a warm welcome to the gathered audience, which numbered over 10,000 participants.
